The National Gallery's vast Museum of Art of the 20th and 21st Centuries (Trade
Fair Palace) is often overlooked by visitors, more bedazzled by Prague's Gothic
and baroque heritage. A short tram ride from the centre, the entire building is
stuffed with works by Van Gogh, Picasso, Schiele, Munch and Klimt, as well as
many Czech masterpieces.
The main holdings are arranged on four floors, in rough chronological order top-to-
bottom. Take the elevator to the 4th floor and work your way down.
Highlights on the 4th floor (Czech art to 1930) include paintings by Alfons Mucha,
Max Švabinský and the early master of abstraction, František Kupka (tracing his shift
from representational art to abstraction post-WWI).
On the 3rd floor (the Interwar Period and French Masters), look for Czech Cubists
Bohumil Kubišta and Josef Čapek. Impressive French holdings include works by
