In-Depth Information
cafe in the famous Palác Akropolis club is a Žižkov institution, with its eccentric
combination of marble panels, quirky metalwork light fittings and weird fishtank in-
stallations designed by local artist František Skála. The menu has a good selection of
vegetarian dishes, from nachos to gnocchi, plus great garlic soup, searingly hot buf-
falo wings and steak tartare.

restaurant, and is still one of the city's best for authentic, home-style curry cuisine.
Service is courteous and the food delicious. The bhaji is rather plain - just onion and
potato thinly sliced, dipped in spiced flour and fried, but very light and crisp - while
the murgh dal consists of tender chicken in a cumin-spiced lentil sauce.

DRINKING & NIGHTLIFE
Žižkov is famous for having more pubs per head of population than any other
city district in Europe, and - depending on your tastes - offers the most authent-
ic or the most terrifying pub-crawling experience in Prague. Be prepared for
smoke, sticky floors, wall-to-wall noise and some heroically drunk companions.
BUKOWSKI'S

( 222 212 676; Bořivojova 86, Žižkov; 6pm-2am; 5, 9, 26) Like many of the drink-
ing dens that are popular among expats, Bukowski's is more a cocktail dive than a
cocktail bar. Named after hard-drinking American writer Charles Bukowski, it cultiv-
ates a dark and slightly debauched atmosphere - the decor is self-consciously 'inter-
esting' (when you can see it through the smoke-befogged candlelight) - but it peddles
quality cocktails and cigars, and has friendly bartenders and cool tunes.
