noon-3pm & 6-11pm; 12, 20, 22) 'The Little Whale' is a tiny place - only eight tables -
run by chef-proprietor Jason from Cork, Ireland, who gets fresh seafood flown in
daily from French markets. The seafood chowder is tasty and filling, the honey-glazed
lamb shank with lemon and thyme is meltingly tender, and the tapas exceedingly
more-ish. Make sure Jason himself is in the kitchen to be sure of a top-quality dinner.

( 603 160 718; www.cafedeparis.cz ; Maltézské náměstí 4; mains 230-290Kč; noon-
midnight; 12, 20, 22) A little corner of France tucked away on a quiet square, the
Café de Paris is straightforward and unpretentious. So is the menu - just a couple of
choices, onion soup or foie gras terrine to start, followed by entrecôte steak with
chips, salad and a choice of sauces (they're very proud of the Café de Paris sauce,
made to a 75-year-old recipe with 35 ingredients).
There are also one or two daily specials, including a vegetarian alternative. The
wine list offers a decent range of French wines, including a Muscadet that's good
value at 399Kč a bottle.

époque cafe, with haughty black-and-white-suited waiting staff and a Viennese-style
menu of hearty soups, salads and roast meats. There's also a good breakfast menu
with plenty of healthy choices, including a 'Full English', an American breakfast, and
eggs cooked half-a-dozen ways.

lodge hidden away on a quiet side street, 'At the Blue Duckling' is a pleasantly old-
fashioned place with quiet, candlelit nooks perfect for a romantic dinner. The menu is
heavy on traditional Bohemian duck and game dishes, such as roast duck with
slivovice (plum brandy), plum sauce and potato pancakes.
