FRANZ KAFKA MUSEUM
180/120Kč; 10am-6pm Apr-Oct, to 5pm Mon-Thu & to 6pm Fri-Sun Nov-Mar; 12, 20, 22)
This much-hyped exhibition on the life and work of Prague's most famous literary
son, entitled 'City of K', explores the intimate relationship between the writer and the
city that shaped him, through the use of original letters, photographs, quotations, peri-
od newspapers and publications, and video and sound installations.
Does it vividly portray the claustrophobic bureaucracy and atmosphere of brooding
menace that characterised Kafka's world? Or is it a load of pretentious bollocks? You
decide.

Cries of disbelief, laughter and raised cam-
eras greet
Proudy
(Streams; 2004) by David Černý, a saucy animatronic sculpture of
two guys pissing in a puddle shaped like the Czech Republic. The microchip-con-
trolled sculptures are writing out famous quotations from Czech literature with their
'pee'.
MMUSSEUUM
KGB MUSEUM
( 272 048 047; Vlašska 13; admission 180Kč; 9am-8pm; 12, 20, 22)
The enthusiastic
Russian collector of KGB memorabilia who established this small museum will show
you around his treasure trove of genuine spy cameras, concealed pistols, weapons (in-
cluding an original garotte, known as 'Stalin's scarf') and sinister electrical 'interrog-
ation equipment' (read: torture). There are also rare photographs of Prague taken in
1968 by a KGB officer, with ordinary citizens strangely absent from the street scenes.
MALTESE SQUARE
(Maltézské náměstí; 12, 20, 22, 23 to Malostranské náměstí)
References to the Knights of
Malta around Malá Strana hark back to 1169, when that military order established a
monastery in the Church of Our Lady Beneath the Chain on this square. Disbanded by
