Powder Tower
A passage to the north of St Vitus Cathedral leads to the Powder Tower OFFLINE
MAP GOOGLE MAP (Prašná Věž; admission with Prague Castle long-tour ticket;
9am-6pm Apr-Oct, to 4pm Nov-Mar), also called Mihulka, which was built in the 15th cen-
tury as part of the castle's defences. Later it became the workshop of cannon- and
bell-maker Tomáš Jaroš, who cast the bells for St Vitus Cathedral. Today it houses an
exhibition on the history of the Castle Guard.
PRAGUE CASTLE TICKETS
There are two kinds of ticket (each valid for two days), which allow entry to dif-
ferent combinations of sights:
Long Tour (adult/child/family 350/175/700Kč) - includes St Vitus Cathedral,
Old Royal Palace, Story of Prague Castle, Basilica of St George, Convent of St
George, Powder Tower, Golden Lane and Daliborka, Prague Castle Picture
Gallery, Powder Tower and Rosenberg Palace.
Short Tour (adult/child/family 250/125/500Kč) - includes St Vitus Cathedral,
Old Royal Palace, Basilica of St George, Golden Lane and Daliborka.
You can buy tickets at either of two information centres in the Second and
Third Courtyards ( 224 372 423, 224 372 419; www.hrad.cz ; 9am-6pm Apr-Oct,
to 4pm Nov-Mar) , or from ticket offices at the entrances to Golden Lane, the Old
Royal Palace and the Story of Prague Castle exhibition.
GARDEN ON THE RAMPARTS
At the castle's eastern gate, you can either descend the Old Castle Steps to
Malostranská metro station or take a sharp right and wander back to Hradčany Square
through the Garden on the Ramparts (Zahrada na valech; 10am-6pm Apr & Oct, to
7pm May & Sep, to 9pm Jun & Jul, to 8pm Aug, closed Nov-Mar) . The terrace garden offers
superb views across the rooftops of Malá Strana and permits a peek into the back
garden of the British embassy. Alternatively, you can descend to Malá Strana through
the terraced Palace Gardens Beneath Prague Castle ( CLICK HERE ).
