Chapter 8
East London
Once neglected and horribly rundown, East London has been transformed into a thriving
melting pot of underground styles and cultures. Aesthetically it's retained its working class
roots. The grimy exterior is wonderfully photogenic, filled with old red railway bridges, dis-
used warehouses, and rows of iconic terraces. They, in turn, are filled with pop up galleries,
great local restaurants, buskers, pubs, vintage clothing markets, vibrant graffiti, and a con-
tinual dose of intrigue. If you're to hear the Cockney accent then it will probably in the East.
This generations old tradition is merging with the artistic and alternative crowd, along with
a distinct and diverse multiculturalism.
East London is changing ideologically, the boroughs getting gentrified one by one. While
the locals may complain about this, it offer visitors a fascinating experience. East London is
original, safe, and bursting with unique experiences. The only downside is public transport;
London Underground connections are limited and you may need to use the TFL journey
planner and jump on a red double decker bus.
