In-Depth Information
The City of London is mainly the haunt of city workers drinking after work and then stay-
ing out until 11pm on Thursdays and Fridays. It's swish, decadent, and decidedly upmarket.
While it might be expensive, the local drinkers are a discerning bunch so expect quality
beers and pubs that have been around for 300 years. Dress to impress at the weekend, al-
though Monday to Wednesday is often very quiet here and there's never much happening
after midnight.
The exception to this is Fabric, one of London's must visit nightclubs - see below.
There's a whole host of old pubs to be discovered around Liverpool Street
Underground station , including Dirty Dick's, Lamb Tavern, White Hart,
and Ye Old Watling. All offer elegant old pub interiors and good ale.
Perhaps the most historic of the pubs is Ye Old Cheshire Cheese , still
pulling pints after 350 years and a classic banker's institution. 145 Fleet
Street.
London's finest large scale underground club, Fabric is a real UK institution
and its three floors rock until 6 or 8am every Thursday to Saturday. Expect
pounding bass that rises from beneath your feet and a serious atmosphere of
getting wasted. While its appeal is for young people, Fabric has an eclectic
international audience. Check the listings as each night is generally tailored
to a different electronic music genre, with the majority focusing on house
and techno. 77a Charterhouse St www.fabriclondon.com
