Walk, or Take a Bike
There's no denying London's immense size. But London for tourists is much smaller than
most people realize. In three hours you can walk from the aristocratic splendor of South
Kensington in West London, all the way to the funky working class area of Brick Lane,
East London. Which sounds like a long time, but you'll be passing through everything in
Central London and most of the monopoly board on route. When the sun is shining there's
far more to see above ground than on the Underground, so pack the walking boots and save
on transport costs.
London has copied Paris's public bike system, with docking stations of blue bikes every
half a mile. It's not for the inexperienced cyclist, but it's seriously cheap, with a week's rent-
al costing only £7.
