The Different Months and When to Go
An infamous grey sky above the London Eye
Many people know London for monotonous grey skies and insatiable rain. This unfortunate
stereotype is as widely believed as the stereotype of English people always complaining yet
always saying sorry. Or that everyone in London is buddies with the Queen. London receives
less annual rainfall than Paris (sorry, “city of romance”) and Italy (apologies, Tuscan vine-
yards). So don't expect to visit London and spend five days under an umbrella. The truth in
the stereotype lies in the climate's inherent unpredictability. Trying to sidestep the weather
and visit London in the “best month” is only likely to lead in disappointment. You might
read that there's more chance of clear days in May but then for a whole week it's “raining
cats and dogs” (to coin a local expression).
