INVERTED INDEXING
What do users and IS practitioners achieve through inverted indexing?
Inverted indexing provides information retrieval capabilities superior to
relational indexes. Both users and IS benefit from the added functionality
and enhanced performance gained. Users can freely inquire into the corpo-
rate data stores while IS need not worry about problematic queries.
Flexible Retrievals
In addition to the tremendous speed advantages that inverted indexing
provides, it delivers great flexibility to users in the ways they can search and
query data. Users can intuitively search through data, finding records in a
way that is obvious and logical. Users are not limited by computer query lan-
guages and constructs. Some of these intuitive search capabilities include
keyword searches, multiple criteria iterative searches, and qualifying counts.
A keyword is any word or value surrounded by spac-
es or punctuation. Each word or value (keyword) in a column is indexed
