CONCLUSION
The information most organizations need to control, manage, and run
their business already exists. The data is now effectively being used in day-
to-day operations. Many corporations recognize that they must look
beyond today's systems to use data assets in new ways to:
• Improve productivity of knowledge workers.
• Recognize patterns, spot trends, and improve competitive analysis.
• Integrate diverse activities of the enterprise.
• Understand customer and corporate needs.
• Provide better service.
To accomplish these results first requires managing the data as an enter-
prise-corporate resource. This EDM involves more than the collection and
storing of data parts in a master warehouse. In addition to meeting the
business requirements of specific departments and applications, it must
also include the numerous components to manage a complete systems
integration solution for the needs of the company as a whole entity — both
operational and informational.
To help visualize a foundation for achieving an integrated, enterprise-
driven information resource, corporate IS departments should develop an
infrastructure that can evolve with the current business priorities and
technical solutions available. To ensure effective evolution requires a dis-
ciplined and strategic architecture.
