In-Depth Information
Exhibit 3-9. Control information types.
The manager services the requirements EDM and ensures appropriate
actions are executed and exceptions are noted.
The manager uses the rules contained in the control component to
determine when and how the processes are to be initiated to identify,
source, maintain, access, or distribute the data contained in the data ware-
houses. As required, movement of data to subsequent databases is super-
vised by the manager and delivered by the distribution component. Actual
system processing is accomplished by the execution component as
directed by the manager.
Enterprise warehouse manager activity comprises all aspects of keeping
the data up to date, available, and usable. It includes the validation and
enhancement of operational data, the processing of complete file replace-
ments as well as net change files, and the processing of end-user-generated
information. This activity applies to individual files and across files where
multiple data stores are available. In addition, the removal of obsolete data
and reorganization of the databases are addressed.
The manager ensures both data and referential integrity in the reposi-
tory through the application of controls, management of process execu-
tion, and monitoring of data delivery to keep all enterprise data elements
accessible regardless of the location. Providing overall availability of the
data to the end user includes preparing for unexpected outages. Proce-
dures for backup and recovery as well as for the business interruption (i.e.,
disaster) planning are addressed.
