For business and performance reasons, it may be appropriate to pro-
duce redundant physical copies of data elements and databases or files.
These replications are managed within EDM to ensure consistency and
quality of all enterprise data. Data is thus developed only once and dupli-
cated only where justified, necessary, and controlled.
Duplicate physical enterprise data transported to databases located on
other platforms (e.g., minicomputers, LANs, and personal workstations)
are also client data warehouses of the enterprise data warehouse. Client
data warehouses can be downstream of other client data warehouses in a
distributed hierarchy. All client data warehouse copies are controlled and
