Query languages and other utilities that search and
print selected data items can help the auditor verify database integrity.
query language contain most of the facilities found in an audit software lan-
guage, and in some cases, they contain additional capabilities. The one audit
software feature usually not found in query language is statistical sampling.
Analyze the DBMS.
The DBMS log contains the equivalent of a motion
picture of the activities occurring in a database operation. Although this
log is typically used to help recover database operations, it also contains
information that can be valuable for audit purposes. The auditor can use
this information to reconstruct Transaction Processing as well as to ana-
lyze the types of activities that occur during database operations.
Analyze the DBMS Log.
The security log records who accessed what
item in the database. In addition, the security log should list the frequency
and type of invalid accesses that were attempted. The auditor can sort this
