Databases Reference
In-Depth Information
Some of the open questions as listed previously cannot be answered
until more experience is gained and documented. The lessons learned in
such a project are valuable. The authors of this chapter would welcome
any further guidelines and comments on the development of a distributed
database system.
CONCLUSION
After a detailed design of the distributed environment has been per-
formed, the results include a high-level specification of the hardware, DBMS,
communications, and other support software configuration for each site par-
ticipating in the distributed DBMS. Similarly, after the installation phase, the
result is a distributed environment that is properly installed and functioning.
Finally, supporting the environment and its applications yields a distributed
database environment that is properly maintained and fully operational.
