administrator writes another business rule: A CONTRACT IS A WRITTEN
EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT SIGNED BY A FAMILY AND A CAREGIVER
WHICH IS DESIGNED TO ELIMINATE JOB MISCONCEPTIONS. A CONTRACT
SPECIFIES DEPENDENT CARE, HOUSEKEEPING SERVICES, CAREGIVER SAL-
ARY SCHEDULE, AND CAREGIVER BENEFITS.
Tell me a bit more about the caregiver and where they live. “A caregiver
does not have to live in the same dwelling as the family.” If the caregiver
does not live with the family, where does the caregiver live? “Caregivers live
in their own dwellings or someone else's.” Who determines where the care-
giver lives? “It is the choice of the caregiver.” The latest business rule
becomes: A CAREGIVER MAY LIVE IN THE FAMILY'S HOME OR ELSEWHERE.
What other services does your agency provide after the employment
contract is signed and the caregiver begins work? “We may provide a sub-
stitute at no extra charge if the caregiver leaves abruptly.” What consti-
tutes abruptly? “When the caregiver leaves before the end date of the con-
tract and without good cause.” The business rule administrator seeks
clarification. What constitutes without good cause? “Good cause would be
serious personal or family illness. It might also include a disagreement on
ethics between a family and a caregiver. Homesickness, however, is not
good cause.”
Are there conditions that the family must fulfill in order for the agency to
provide a substitute free of charge? “Absolutely, the family must pay the
agency fee in full on time.” What do you mean by on time? “One week before
the caregiver's first day on the job.” The business rule administrator makes
a note: THE AGENCY WILL PROVIDE A SUBSTITUTE CAREGIVER AT NO
EXTRA CHARGE TO THE FAMILY IF THE ORIGINAL CAREGIVER LEAVES
WITHOUT GOOD CAUSE. THIS GUARANTEE WILL ONLY APPLY IF THE
FAMILY HAS PAID THE FULL AGENCY FEE AT LEAST ONE WEEK PRIOR TO
CAREGIVER'S FIRST DAY ON THE JOB.
Can we talk a bit about the employment application? “Sure, here is the
one that I use.” Who completes the application? “Both the caregiver and
the family. I also have two other applications: one for a caregiver who is
seeking employment and one for a family seeking a caregiver.” Does a car-
egiver application require different information than a family one? “Yes, a
caregiver application requires specification of previous job experience.”
Must all of these applications always be written? “Yes.” The business rule
administrator notes: AN EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION IS A WRITTEN
REQUEST FOR EMPLOYMENT FROM A CAREGIVER WHICH SPECIFIES
NAME, ADDRESS, EXPERIENCE, SALARY REQUIREMENTS, REFERENCES,
AND RELIGION.
Must a caregiver specify religious affiliation, as noted here? “No, but the
caregiver may do so if desired.” Can a caregiver have many re4ons? “We
