Hawaii Sucre and Beni. An ice cream parlour-cum-café-cum-bar, Hawaii is a popular spot
throughout the day for its array of sundaes (Bs20-25), fast food-style meals (around Bs35)
and inexpensive tragos (alcoholic drinks) later on. Daily.
Ikiraus Corner Sucre and 24 de Septiembre. Also known as La Pascana , this garishly-col-
oured café - the decor features splashes of pink, white, orange, green and yellow - on the
plaza has cosy booths, buzzers on the tables to attract the waitresses and a menu of sundaes
(Bs28-50), sweet and savoury snacks (Bs10-35), coffees and alcoholic drinks.
Michelangelo Chuquisaca 502. 03 3348403. One of the finest restaurants in Santa Cruz
(it's worth reserving a table), offering superb Italian cuisine and immaculate service in an in-
timate atmosphere. Prices are a little steep (mains Bs50-100), but it is an excellent place for
a treat. Mon-Fri lunch only, Sat dinner only.
Victory Junín and 21 de Mayo. On the first floor of the Galeria Casco Viejo shopping arcade,
this popular bar-restaurant is a good place to relax and watch the world rush by on the busy
streets below. It has decent breakfasts, sandwiches and burgers (Bs14-20), and a good selec-
tion of beers (from Bs13) and cocktails.
SEGUNDO ANILLO
Casa del Camba Av Cristóbal de Mendoza 569. The best of the many large, traditional
Cruceño restaurants on this stretch of the Segundo Anillo, and a great place to enjoy a
reasonably-priced parillada (mixed grill) or pacumutu (a kind of massive shish kebab) to the
accompaniment of live traditional camba music. Mains Bs30-60. Daily 11am-1am.
Makhassan Las Americas 7. There's also another branch on the corner of Monseñor Rivero
and Fortin Arce. The chefs at this restaurant have cooked at some of the world's finest hotels
and have created a menu featuring superlative Asian and European dishes that make use of
excellent local ingredients. Char Sui pork, trout with hollandaise sauce and French cauli-
flower soup are just some of the delights on offer. Expect to pay about Bs150 a head, but it's
worth splashing out.
Yorimichi Busch 548. On the border of the first and second anillos, a 20min walk from
the plaza, is this superior Japanese restaurant. Although the plastic garden chairs feel a little
out of place in an eatery of this class, the food is stunningly authentic, with the sushi, sashimi
and tempura all highlights. Dishes cost Bs42-198.
CALLE MONSEÑOR RIVERO
Freddo Monseñor Rivero 245. This Santa Cruz outpost of the famous Argentine ice cream
chain serves excellent - if pricey - helado (from Bs12). The various dulce de leche flavours
are a fine place to start.
