ACCOMMODATION
Coroico has an impressive range of places to stay, aimed primarily at visitors from La Paz.
At weekends and on public holidays (especially in the high season) everywhere gets very
full and prices go up, so it's worth booking in advance. Even if you're on a tight budget, it's
worth spending a little more to stay somewhere with a swimming pool . The following all
include breakfast unless stated otherwise.
Hostal El Cafétal Near the hospital, a 10min walk southeast of the centre 7193 3979,
elcafetal.co.cc . This French-run institution offers accommodation in bamboo-furnished en-
suite rooms with splendid views and a gratifyingly earthy aroma. The cheaper “backpacker”
rooms are smaller and have shared bathrooms. There's al so a p ool with a few forlorn-looking
deckchairs, plus a good restaurant. Breakfast costs extra. Bs80
Hostal Kory P. Linares 7156 4050. A good-value choice with a huge pool (open to non-
guests for Bs10) and clean, parquet-floored en-suite rooms with incredible views. There are
also some cheap er opt ions with shared bathrooms, plus a restaurant, communal kitchen and
laundry service. Bs140
Hostal Sol y Luna Just under 1km outside town uphill on Julio Zuazo Cuenca, beyond
the Hotel Esmeralda 7156 1626, solyluna-bolivia.com . A veritable enchanted forest of
a retreat, Sol y Luna has to be one of the most charming hideaways in Bolivia. There is a col-
lection of delightful rustic cabins (sleeping 2-3) and apartments (sleeping 2), most situated
in discreet seclusion at the end of winding, subtropical paths. The whitewash and thatch of
the older, Spanish-style cottages contrasts with newer, more environmentally integrated ad-
ditions like the attractive Jajata cabin, and an amazing treehouse. If you're after a specific
choice (check the website), it's advisable to book in advance. There are also several simple,
inexpensive rooms, a hot tub, camping space (Bs20/person), and a restaurant and bamboo
meditation hall. Yoga (Bs20) and massages (Bs80 ) are on offer too, and br eakfas t costs extra.
A taxi from town costs about Bs15. Cabins Bs200 ; doubles and apartments Bs100
Hotel Bella Vista Heroes Del Chaco, two blocks north of the plaza 02 2136059, coro-
icohotelbellavista@hotmail.com . This stylish, Bolivian-owned place has faux-colonial decor,
towering ceilings and a contemporary twist. Each of the en-suite rooms come with TVs and
inspirational views, though the paint's peeling a bit. There's a large mural in reception de-
picting the oppression and emancipation of black slaves , with the Bible placed pointedly at
its centre. There are bikes for hire and a laundry service. Bs250
