ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE: COROICO
By bus Buses, micros and minivans to Coroico (2hr 15min-3hr 30min) depart from La Paz
every half hour from the Villa Fatima district; they depart from and return to the bus station
on the south side of town. Minivans are the quickest and most comfortable form of trans-
port and cost only a little extra. It's worth buying a ticket in advance, especially at weekends,
and travelling by day. If you want to go to Chulumani, you'll need to head back to Unduavi,
where the roads to the north and south Yungas divide, and catch a through bus from La Paz to
Chulumani. If you're heading into the Amazon, you can buy a ticket on a through bus to Rur-
renabaque (at least 15hr) from La Paz, from Trans Palmeras or Trans-Totai in the terminal;
buses pass through Yolosita on the main road every day. The price includes a transfer from
Coroico to Yolosita.
By boat For a more adventurous way to reach Rurrenabaque, Deep Rainforest, at the corner
of Murillo and Sagarnaga in La Paz ( 02 2150385, deep-rainforest.com ) offers weekly
dry-season (May-Oct) departures (3 days; Bs1260/$180) from Coroico via Guanay, where
onward travel is via the Río Mapiri.
GETTING AROUND
On foot Coroico is a small town and almost everything is within easy walking distance of the
plaza.
By taxi You can also usually find a taxi in the plaza to take you to the further flung hotels.
INFORMATION
Tourist information There is a tourist office staffed by local guides on the plaza (daily
8am-8pm; 7250 5402), which has a selection of flyers and maps, and can give advice in
Spanish. The bus station also has a tourist office, though it's only intermittently open. The
website coroi.co.cc is a useful resource as well.
