COROICO'S FIESTA

of drinking, processions and costumed dances. The fiesta commemorates the day in 1811
when the statue of the Virgin in the church - brought here from Barcelona in 1680, when
Coroico was founded - supposedly summoned a ghost army to drive off a force of indigen-
ous rebels that were besieging the town.
