CHALLAPAMPA
The beach area in Challapampa boasts a few basic restaurants with al fresco tables and inex-
pensive almuerzos.
Hostal Inca Uta In a courtyard close to the dock 7151 5246. This stone-walled hostal
boasts the relative luxury of en-suite roo ms, though it remains very basic and - for Chal-
lapampa at least - a little overpriced. Bs70
Hostal Pachamama Just beyond the museum. No phone. A friendly place, overlooking the
beach, with claustrophobic ground-floor rooms but better, mor e spa cious ones upstairs; both
have shared bathrooms. There are also basic laundry facilities. Bs40
PLAYA CHALLA
Qhumphuri Hostel and Restaurant Playa Challa 7152 1188. This friendly, family-run
lodge on a hilltop overlooking Playa Challa has reasonable en-suite rooms and a ca mpfir e on
the terrace in the evenings. The restaurant also serves decent, though simple meals. Bs40
YUMANI
The tightly packed thatched houses (and hotels) are arranged in a labyrinthine street plan
that's difficult to find your way around, particularly after dark (bring a torch). The easiest
hotels to locate are the high end ecotourism projects developed by the big La Paz-based oper-
ators. Most of the village's hotels and hostals have in-house restaurants serving pizza, pasta
and trout; prices are higher than in Copacabana.
Ecolodge La Estancia On a hilltop just outside town 02 2442727, ecolodge-laketitic-
aca.com . Run by Magri Turismo, these delightful adobe thatched-roof en-suite cottages are
arranged on terraces and connected by cobbled paths. Each has solar electricity and fantastic
lake vi ews. Rates include dinner on arrival and breakfast the following morning. Book in ad-

Hostal Imperio del Sol Near the church on the left-hand side of the steps 7196 1863.
This modern peach-coloured hostal has clean, though still pretty basi c, rooms with shared or
private bathrooms, plus a restaurant, internet café and pet llama. Bs70
Hostal Inti Kala Right at the top of town 7194 4013, [e-mail] . A
handsome stone and wood construction with huge windows, winding balconies and a spa-
cious terrace with incredible views, the currently expanding Inti Kala also has som e of the
most stylish private bathrooms on the island. Breakfast is included in the room rate. Bs180
Hostal Inti Wayra In view of the church 7194 2015. A decent choice with sizeable, bal-
conied rooms and excellent east-facing lake views. Those of a spir itual b ent can avail them-
selves of the meditation room, and there's also a decent restaurant. Bs100
