In-Depth Information
CEMETERY DISTRICT
Buses and micros to the Lago Titicaca region, Charazani, Copacabana, Sorata and Tiwanaku,
arrive and depart from outside various offices in the streets around the cemetery district high
up on the west side of the city. Buses and micros to Copacabana leave from several differ-
ent offices on Aliaga, just off Av Baptista opposite the cemetery itself. If you want to con-
tinue into Peru, it's very easy to do so from Copacabana, where there are frequent cross-
border micros; you can also book a more expensive tourist micro direct to Puno in Peru
through any tour agency in La Paz. Buses and micros to Tiwanaku and the Peruvian border
at Desaguadero leave from offices stretched out along Eyzaguirre between Aliaga and Asín
in the cemetery district. Buses to Sorata depart from offices a block further east on Bustillos,
and those to both Charazani and Pelechuco in the Cordillera Apolobamba leave from Reyes
Cardona, another block further along. Plenty of micros (marked Cementario ) ply the route
between the city centre and the cemetery, but it's a pretty chaotic and dangerous part of town,
so it's a good idea to take a taxi (around Bs12), especially if you have heavy luggage.
Destinations Charazani (1-2 daily; 10hr); Copacabana (every 30min; 3hr 30min); Desagua-
dero (every 30min; 1hr 30min); Pelechuco (4 weekly; 13hr); Sorata (hourly; 4hr 30min); Ti-
wanaku (every 30min; 1h r30min).
VILLA FÁTIMA
Buses from Coroico and Chulumani in the Yungas, and from Rurrenabaque and the Beni,
arrive at, and depart from the Villa Fátima district, 2km from the centre in the far northeast
of the city; the different bus companies all have offices around the intersection of Av de las
Americas andYanacachi. BusesandmicrosforCoroicoleavefromthelatter; FlotaYungueña
has the best reputation. Those going to Chulumani leave from offices a block further up the
same street and around the corner on San Borja. Buses to Rurrenabaque, Guayaramerín and
Riberalta, and elsewhere in the Beni and on to Cobija in the Pando, depart from the offices of
several different companies further along Av de las Américas and just off it to the left on Vir-
gen del Carmen. For long-haul routes to the Beni and Pando, it's well worth coming up here
and buying a ticket in advance. Again, plenty of micros head down to the city centre from
here, east along J. J. Perez or south on Av 6 de Agosto, but a taxi (around Bs12) is quicker,
easier and more secure.
Destinations Chulumani (hourly; 4hr 30min); Cobija (1 weekly; 48hr); Coroico (every
30min; 4hr 30min); Guayaramerín (1 daily; 32hr); Riberalta (1 daily; 30-40hr); Rur-
renabaque (1 daily; 20hr).
