given to debates surrounding the digital divide and the mobile phone
revolution in Africa and Asia. The concluding chapter moves away from
examining everyday local geographies by exploring macroeconomic
transformations in trade and aid that have served to shape the global
distribution of flows of commodities, capital and labour in an increas-
ingly interdependent world. Through an example of fair trade, Chapter 3.5
concludes by highlighting the role of small-scale and grassroots move-
ments in providing an alternative globalization from 'below' that could
provide pathways to a more sustainable future for many communities
in the global South.
