Capri
The island of Capri has had a reputation as being a getaway destination for the rich, glam-
orous, and powerful every since the days of the Roman Empire. While Capri is known as
a summer playground, it still maintains a sense of culture as well as natural beauty. Once
travelers come here, they're sure to instantly see why even Roman emperors came to Capri
to get away from the hustle and bustle of mainland Italian life.
Travel Tip: Capri can be very crowded during the summer, es-
pecially in July and August. If you're looking for a more calming
and relaxing getaway, avoid the summer months.
What to See and Do:
There are plenty of things to do and see while on Capri aside from going to the beach. And
yes, there are some marvelous beaches on the island, so leave plenty of room so soak up
the sun on them. Meanwhile, while you're not busy sunbathing, go for a little adventure and

waters that surround it. It's typically open all year round to see, depending, of course, on the
tides and the size of the waves on a current day.
You can check out the former residence of Emperor Tiberius at Villa Jovis. Also in the area
is the Church of Santa Maria del Soccorso, the Cave of Tiberius, and the Lighthouse Tower.
There's also the Church of San Michele Arcangelo, where you'll come across its impressive
mosaic floor depicting the expulsion of Adam and Eve.
What to Eat:
When dining in Capri, there's so many fresh tastes to experience. Ever hear of caprese? If
not, you've most likely eaten it before. It's the traditional salad dish made up of mozzarella,
tomato, and fresh basil. Capri is definitely not short on fancy restaurants. Those foodies
looking for the ultimate Capri dining experience may have a hard time deciding which place
to choose. Keep in mind though that dining on Capri can get very expensive. Another altern-
ative is to visit the local markets and pick up some fresh produce, meats, and cheeses, and
make your own meal while leaving the dining out splurge perhaps only for dinner. Island
specialties include various ravioli capresi and torta caprese, aside from the orginal insalata
caprese (caprese salad).
