Travel Tip:
If you are planning to visit any of the eighty plus
museums in Florence, it's a good idea to purchase a Firenze Card.
This card allows you access to about thirty museums in a seventy-
two hour period. Also, in some of the museums, the pass allows
you to jump ahead in the long lines.
Duomo di Firenze:
Officially known as the Cattedrale Santa Maria del Fiore, Duomo di Firenze is arguable
the most popular tourist destination in Florence. It was built between 1296 and 1436 and
symbolized the importance of a growing city at that time. When this magnificent cathed-
ral was finished, the dome was the world's largest for the time period and to this day still
stands as an important representation of Florence culture. Inside the dome is a beautiful
fresco painted by Giorgio Vasari and Frederico Zuccari and depicts the Last Judgement.
The Duomo di Firenze also has an impressively high bell tower and The Baptistery, which
is one of Florence's oldest buildings.
Travel Tip:
Because it is one of Florence's main attractions,
the lines to see the Duomo di Firenze can be very long. It's recom-
mended that you go early or during the non-tourist season.
