Rome is a pretty safe city, but it's not spared the usual troubles
of scamming and pick-pocketing. A good thing to learn is how to
blend in with the Romans. Don't stand out as a tourist and you
won't become a target.
Don't be afraid to say no to the insistent street salesmen. You'll
most likely encounter them in busy tourist spots offering things
from knock-off purses to umbrellas. It's best to avoid contact and
keep walking.
If you decide to travel in the summertime, the heat and sun
can be pretty brutal. Be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen with you
while you're out and don't forget to drink plenty of water.
