Alessandria:
In the extreme southeast of the Piedmont Region, you'll find the Province of Alessandria.
Here you'll find the lovely hilly landscape of the Monferrato hills, while in the south of the
province you'll see the beauty of the Ligurian Apennine Mountains. This area is known for
its diverse landscapes untouched by human hands. From the dense woods of chestnut and
beech trees to the colorful hillsides, Alessandria Province is quite a natural gem to behold.
It's also home to several natural preserves, including Torrente Orba Natural Reserve and
Capanne di Marcarolo Natural Park. Since the Ancient Romans had a presence in this area,
there are also ruins of castles dotting the countryside as well.

city is rich in history ranging from art to architecture. There's the famous Cittadella with
its many beautiful piazzas, religious sites that include the UNESCO World Heritage Site of
the Sacro Monte di Crea, and impressive 18

century palaces as well. In fact, many old
churches and other shrines can be found across the countryside of the province if you're in
an adventurous mood.

out all of the old castles that can be found across the countryside.
You may even happen upon some ancient Roman ruins!
For travelers looking for a more laid back trip, you can check out the small town of Valenza
situated on the banks of the Po River. This town is famous for its gold and jewelry making.
Another small town called Gavi, has an old towering castle that once served as a fortress for
the Republic of Genoa. There's plenty of opportunity for biking and hiking while visiting
the Alessandria Province. There are plenty of trails for bikers that wind through the Po River
Park as well as the Vercellese-Alessandrino Tract. If you're looking for rest and relaxation,
head to the Acqui Terme, a spa and wellness center that has soothing hot springs. There are
also a variety of festivals and parades happening throughout the year as well.
What to Eat:
Like most of the local cuisine in the Piedmont Region, food prepared in the Alessandria
Province is just as traditional, simple, and authentic. If you're a fan of Porcini mushrooms,
