Piedmont Region
Like The Cinque Terre, Piedmont refers to a specific region of Italy instead of a city. It's
made up of several different cities with breathtaking mountain views, vineyards, and a pop-
ular tourist destination lake. Piedmont is located in the northwest of Italy, and shares its
border with Switzerland and France. Piedmont actually means foot of the mountain, and it
certainly lives up to its name since it's surrounded on three sides by the beautifully majestic
Alps. Here you'll also find the largest glaciers as well as the highest peaks in all of Italy.
The Piedmont region truly has something for every type of traveler. Whether you're looking
to embark on a food tour by eating your way through the various villages, looking to exper-
ience some of the region's top wines straight from the picturesque vineyards, or are search-
ing for a bit of outdoor adventure, there's plenty to eat, drink, and experience while in this

see since it's also famous for its truffles. And as far as celebrating food goes, somewhere
there's most likely a wine, wild mushroom, or truffle festival going on.
There are a few key provinces and cities within them in the Piedmont region that are must
to visit. These include Turin, Asti, and, Alessandria. Also, for those looking for an outdoor
getaway, Lake Maggiore's pristine water and scenic setting is sure to satisfy the nature lov-
er's traveler.
