The Cinque Terre
Ifyou'relookingforatravel destination inNorthernItaly awayfromall ofthetypical tourist
spots, then The Cinque Terre (Five Lands) may be just what you're looking for. The Cinque
Terre itself is not an actual destination; however, it refers to the five small towns that make
up the area known as The Cinque Terre. So, you can chose to visit all five towns, or pick one
or more that pique your interests and spend more time where you think you'll have the best
experience instead of trying to see all five. The villages are also pretty close to one another,
so there's some great hiking and biking options available for those looking to get out and
enjoy the fresh air. The five towns or villages that make up The Cinque Terre are: Riomag-
giore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso al Mare.
Travel Tip: The Cinque Terre villages are located just north of
the Tuscan border. If you're coming from Florence (to the south) or
Milan (to the north) either way it's about three hours to The Cinque
Terre by train. The nearest airports are Pisa, Genoa, and Milan.
