INTRODUCTION
When owners consider the use of DB for project delivery, especially when it is a delivery
method new to their organization, it is helpful to review the lessons learned during other
projects. This chapter presents the top ten owner success strategies that reflect lessons
learned assembled through consultation with both owners and practitioners who have
planned and performed DB projects.
Deciding to undertake DB necessitates that an owner's organization develop and
adapt to new planning, procurement, and project management processes. This is espe-
cially difficult for larger, more mature organizations that have been using DBB processes
and procedures for decades, and have a culture and business perspective to support the
DBB approach. The following strategies support and illustrate the changes needed for an
owner to undertake a DB project while creating an environment for success.
