In-Depth Information
L. appendix (Holmes et al . , 1999), PTU did not induce metamorphosis in
P. marinus despite a suppression of serum TH concentrations (discussed
below) (R.G. Manzon et al . , 2001). Finally, in vitro studies confi rmed that
KClO 4 acts directly on the larval endostyle to inhibit iodide uptake and
organifi cation (R.G. Manzon and Youson, 2002; Fig. 8).
Figure 7. A) Number of metamorphosing sea lamprey and stage of metamorphosis in control
larvae and following a 6 week exposure to methimazole at low (L-MMI; 0.087 mM) and high
doses (H-MMI; 0.87), potassium perchlorate at the high dose (H-KClO4; 0.72 mM), or potassium
thiocyanate at the high dose (H-KSCN; 0.51 mM). B) Number of metamorphosing sea lamprey
and stage of metamorphosis in control larvae and following a 16 weeks exposure to KClO4
at low (L-KClO4; 0.072) and high (H-KClO4) doses or KSCN at low (L-KSCN; 0.051 mM) and
high (H-KSCN) doses. Sample is equal to 30 unless indicated otherwise below the abscissa.
