.16..Human. resource,. administrative,. and. inancial. staff.
who.support.the.IT.department
.17..Managers.and.executive.leadership.for.all.of.the.above
Of.course,.in.smaller.organizations.any.or.all.of.these.roles.
might.be.handled.by.a.few.people.or.outsourced.to.contractors.
The.point.of.enumerating.these.different.roles.that.come.
under.the.title.of.IT.is.to.impress.upon.you.that.there.are.a.
myriad. of. areas. of. expertise. and. thus. myriad. numbers. and.
types.of.people.involved.in.any.IT.system.
Each. of. these. speciic. types. of. information. technologists.
will.have.their.own.language.with.which.they.communicate.to.
their.peers.and.with.which.they.manage.their.day-to-day.tasks..
A.layperson.who.does.not.do.that.type.of.work,.even.a.person.
who.is.in.a.different.part.of.the.IT.organization,.may.very.well.
have.no.way.of.understanding.what.is.being.discussed.or.how.
to.communicate.with.those.technicians.(FigureĀ 2.6).
From.the.perspective.of.information.technologists,.there.
are.speciic.problems.and.tasks.that.they.have.to.accomplish.
every. day,. and. the. knowledge. and. language. that. they. and.
their.peers.bring.to.each.of.those.tasks.can.be.very.special-
ized..This.is.absolutely.necessary.and.appropriate.in.order.for.
them.to.communicate.and.work.effectively.
Figure 2.6 The.technologists.might.seem.to.be.speaking.a.different.
language,.but.they.understand.it.
