that. is. captured. by. video. surveillance. devices. (Figure 3.11)..
You.may.hear.these.devices.referred.to.as.CCTV,.or.closed-
circuit.television..These.devices.are.simply.cameras.that.can.
be. (and. are). mounted. anywhere.. They. have. proliferated. in.
these.days.of.more.fear.around.terrorism.and.crime,.and.in.
many. cities. you. will. ind. them. peeking. at. you. from. every.
street.corner..Most.corporations.and.buildings.use.these.as.
part. of. their. surveillance. for. security,. and. of. course. most.
retail.service.providers.have.them.strategically.located.to.try.
to.prevent.or.deter.theft..Banks.have.had.video.surveillance.
for.as.long.as.the.technology.existed.

In. the. past,. these. devices. were,. as. advertised,. simple.
closed.video.feeds.that.sent.those.signals.down.the.cable.to.a.
television.screen.that.was.sometimes.monitored.by.a.security.
guard..Other.times.it.was.simply.recorded.to.tape.for.review.
in.case.of.an.event.
But,. as. with. everything. else,. all. of. this. signaling. and.
recording.evolved.so.that.the.majority.of.these.devices.store.
their.data.digitally.on.hard.drives..This.increased.the.capacity.
