File Browser
Most of the controls in Blender's version of the file browser (what many people call an Open/Save dialog)
are the same as those in other systems. They just look a bit different. The main goal of the File Browser
view is to locate either files or folders. For navigating the directory structure of your hard drive, there are
the navigation buttons (labeled A in Figure 2.19 ) that allow you to move up a directory level, refresh the
current directory, or move back and forward in your browsing history. Anyone familiar with a modern
file browser will be familiar with this.
Down the left side of the view are groups of shortcuts to various locations on your hard drive. Some common
system directory locations are found in the System section, followed by bookmarks that you can add and
remove yourself, and a small selection of recently browsed folders. LMB clicking on any of these items will
immediately take the file browser to that directory. You will never have to double click in Blender.
The main workspace on the right contains the file listing for the current directory. To select a file, LMB
click on it. To enter a folder (directory) in the listing, once again, just LMB click on it once. If you need
more information about a file before you choose it, the small cluster of buttons labeled B in Figure 2.19
change the display from a long list to a list with file details such as creation date and size, and a thumbnail
view that can display image previews.
