Adding an Image Texture
Over in the Texture properties, add a new texture and call it “carpet.” Figure 7.12 shows the first layer
of carpet texture settings.
In the type selector, choose Image or Movie . This brings up the Image controls, just like the other
texture types bring up a panel with controls specific to their needs. At first, though, the Image panel only
contains two buttons: New and Open. Click Open and browse your way to your carpet texture. The
specific texture I've used in this example ( carpet3.jpg ) is from the public-domain Blender  Texture CD , and
is available in the Web Bucket for this chapter. When you load the image, informational widgets appear
in the panel that tell you the full disk path to the image, as well as its size in pixels and its color space.
Now that you have a texture with color data, the RGB sliders in the Colors panel become active. As
before, I caution your use of them, as they can lead to strange color blending problems later.
