In-Depth Information
5. Pirate Guards . While these two are shadows , they are also threshold guardians . They
are here to check whether Flynn is ready to proceed. They are less eager to kill than the
skeletons, but are willing to rough Flynn up a bit if he doesn't answer their questions.
There. That was easy. So with the help of these guidelines, we can now make up little stories
for each of our characters. Giving them a few traits will help us think of lines they might say in the
game, and give them some personality.
First Prisoner
Out trickster is the first character Flynn talks to in this level. He will have several dialogues, so
there is opportunity to make his personality shine through. He used to be a happy ship's boy, but
unfortunately he got locked up by the skeleton pirates. It has recently dawned on him that
neither his ship-mates nor his family is particularly eager to come rescue him or pay his ransom.
This makes him disappointed and angry. He is now only interested in helping himself and will lie
through the teeth to get out of his cage. You can't really blame him.
Thirsty Pirate
This fellow has some comedy value. He is addicted to lemonade and down on his luck. The only
thing he looks forward to in life is the next swig of the sweet bubbly. Even though he is a pirate, he
has grown a bit soft in his old age, and considers himself an honorable man. He knows Archie for
what he is and doesn't particularly like him, so he drops hints to Flynn about what is going on.
Archie actually ends up being put into danger by retrieving the booby-trapped tankard. Perhaps
this is just a coincidence, but he keeps his word to Flynn and tells him the truth about the secret
lever.
