In-Depth Information
The Resurrection
As the sun rises, the little family takes a boat out to the bay to bring up the treasure.
But oh no! The Pirate King is not dead after all. He has taken on his true form and stealthily
follows the boat through the reef.
As Ben and Flynn are carrying back the treasure chest, the King rises from the sea. He is a
kraken!
This is the final challenge. Flynn takes on the Pirate King, and with a bit of help from Ben and
Mary, he wins. Flynn realizes his own worth as he claims the kraken's claw. He can return proudly
to his home, having achieved all he set out to do; he found his mother, he saved the island from
disaster, and he learned something about himself and who he is.
Return with the Elixir
Along with the treasure chest, he brings back the kraken's claw and the village boys finally believe
his story.
The family shares the treasure amongst all the islanders and we have our happy ending.
But as a last shot, we see Flynn staring out to sea again. He has the admiration of all the other
boys and is no longer an outsider, but greatly admired. He has found his mother too and made
his father a very happy man. But his blood still yearns for adventure. Archie sees it and feels the
same.
We're rounding off with a happy ending, but also leaving room for a new adventure. Will
Flynn go off again? Almost certainly.
Archetypes for Our Story
We already have an indication of what characters we might populate our world with, but we
would do well to look closer at all our characters, good guys and bad guys, helpers and enemies,
protagonists and antagonists alike.
The cast of Shadows on Deck fits neatly into the archetypes we've already been through. They
were:
Hero
Mentor
Herald
Threshold Guardian
Shapeshifter
Trickster
Shadow
Let's go through the most important characters.
