In-Depth Information
The King's scheme works. When Mary sees her son at the King's mercy, she immediately
gives in.
She explains on which island she hid the treasure and how she placed booby traps around it
to keep it safe. The Pirate King doesn't trust her. She's always been a cunning rogue, even when
they worked together. Flynn is shocked. She used to work for the Pirate King?
The King comes up with a plan: he'll send Flynn to get the treasure for him. If Mary is telling
the truth, he should be able to retrieve it safely. Mary cries out in agony but there's nothing she
can do.
The King orders Archibald to accompany Flynn. “Make sure he comes back!”
The two of them set off into the jungle to retrieve the treasure. The mood is ominous. Flynn is
furious with Archie for setting him up and Archie tries to explain he only did it to save Mary, but
Flynn doesn't believe him. He doesn't know what to think about his mother either. Apparently,
she lied to Ben all along. She never intended to stay and never told him about the treasure. And
here Flynn is, traveling through a deadly jungle to try and save her. Does he even want to rescue
her?
But the King has promised him that if he returns with the treasure, not only will he free Mary,
he'll bring them all safely home and even get rid of the fog.
Flynn can only hope that he will keep his promises.
So this is the ordeal. Flynn still has a lot of work to do to claim his reward, and already we
suspect that the reward might not be that easy to get or even worth having. Mary is just a mean
thief who lied to Ben and abandoned Flynn as a baby. Flynn still goes on, though. What else can
he do? He finds the treasure in the jungle level and returns to claim…
The Reward
As we suspected, the reward is unfortunately not worth having. The Pirate King cheats again. He
says he will bring them all home himself, secretly planning to get rid of everyone in one go. The
King needs to go to the island because the treasure that Flynn brought home from the jungle
turns out to be a map. The little island where Flynn was born has a bay with a cave, but no one
ever goes there because it can only be approached by sea and the bay is full of reefs that will tear
the hull of any ship that tries to get past.
But Mary has mastered it. During her time on the island, she explored the reef and found her
way to the cave. She buried the treasure there and drew the map so that she could find her way
back.
The Pirate King drags them all to his ship and locks them up in the hold, even Archie who he
also tricked into cooperation. They are headed for Ben's Island.
The Road Back
In the hold, Mary explains to Flynn that she only left to throw the King off the scent and always
intended to return, but the King caught her before she managed to be rid of him. She begs Flynn
to escape and go warn Ben and the other islanders that trouble is coming. As they anchor not far
from the island to wait for the tide in the early morning, Flynn escapes the hold, but up on deck
he is confronted with the King himself. A great fight takes place and Flynn wins with the help of
Archibald. Or so it seems. The fog slowly dissipates.
He frees his mother and the forgiven parrot and off they go to meet Ben. All is well and they
celebrate with all the islanders. The village boys refuse to believe Flynn's tall tales of adventure.
Flynn tries to convince himself that it doesn't matter.
We have a fake ending here. But in the morning, oh dear…
