Figure 21. Views of the beginning of the branch of the
gallery where the frame constituted by iPn steel shapes
lined with mortar to connect both alignments can be
observed.
at the distance beyond, the dyke can be seen as
well as the two additional pools where tempera-
ture decreases and induced the precipitation of
mud that provided most of the curative virtues of
Fuente santa. (see Figure 20 ) .
as opposed to the chambers excavated in sec-
tions that correspond with the outcroppings lava
flows, in this section the materials lacked cohesion
thus leading to stability problems, such as caving,
that made it necessary to redesign the excavation
procedure. at the end of both galleries the out-
cropping of the old cliff can be observed. (see pre-
vious Figures 19 and 20 ) .
Figure 21 shows the applied method. The
method. it consisted in building battered micropiles
inclined toward the outside by a previous injection
of cement grout through slotted steel pipes.

Finally, mention should be made that if with these
works the Fuente santa spring could be detected
and unburied the reasons were not the actually the
technological advances required to achieve this
purpose; the difference was that, as opposed to our
ancestors, we could resort to four disciplines.
The first one was history that with its accounts
found at local and national archives we could find
what we should look after and where to do it. The
second one was engineering that provided with the
method of excavation, with a gallery rather than a
well. its election opened the way to be able to exca-
vate through a pile of unstable and dangerous pieces
of rocks, along a 200-m stretch and at the same time
provided with a method capable of maneuvering
and detecting the spring flow buried underground.
Figure 20. emergence of waters from Fuente santa can
be observed with its precipitation of aragonites due to
the high temperature of the spring.
heading. Different beach pebbles can be also observed
piled up at the extrados of the lining that can be iden-
tified as such because of their rounded shape.
