4.2.2 Advance in homogeneous bags or non
competent material
if one has to design a rigid support, a fairly com-
mon system is to use the formula of the thin tubes
assuming an uniform stress on the perimeter of the
tunnel.
We will continue to calculate the loads using
Protodiakonov method and project with them the
support.
The parable of vertical loads is the same as
above, but here it is necessary to calculate the lateral
stress, as we are immersed in a homogeneous field
without basaltic lava flows interspersed.
The total pressure on the lineal metre of the tun-
nel at the walls is as follows:
Ε = γ m ⋅ tg 2 (45-ϕ/2) (2/(3tgϕ) [(b + m tan (45-ϕ/2)]
+ (m/2)
(m = height of tunnel 8.50 m, b = width
12.50 m.)
in this case, it is 110,390 kg/m with a maximum
thrust point of 0.26 MPa. Protodiakonov recom-
mends a safety factor of 1.2, i.e. 0.312 MPa, which
we also adopted as uniform across the walls.
