13. EYE Film Institute Netherland
Transport yourself to a futuristic land of the moving image at the EYE Film Institute on the
River IJ in Amsterdam Noord.
You will need to take a short ferry ride from the train station located nearby to get to the
museum. It is free and also worth the ride to get a view of the museum building as you ap-
proach. The building itself is a spectacular sight from afar and resembles a cross between a
floating bird and a giant fluid spaceship that landed on the banks of the river.
EYE is the first museum in the Netherlands dedicated to film, it boasts four massive screen-
ing rooms as well as grand exhibition spaces where the use and concept of film is explored.
Exhibitions look at the cultural heritage value of film as well as its role in entertainment and
of course as a necessary information source. Films are screened throughout the week and a
whole floor of interactive exhibits will keep you and the kids busy for several hours.
