12. Jordaan Area
Once a working class neighborhood, The Jordaan is now filled with restaurants, bars, galler-
ies, and boutiques as well as residents that lean more toward yuppies than working class.
The Jordaan is one of the most popular neighborhoods in the city with strong leftist roots
that has resulted in an area that is part artsy, part earthy, and unabashedly cool. Take one turn
and you could end up in a whimsical flower-powered courtyard, take another turn and you
may be tapping your foot to some jazz.
If you feel like getting a little having a few drinks and a meal before heading out for a night
on the town, Jordaan now has plenty of modern restaurants that make for a perfect non-hip-
pie evening.
In addition to the cool vibe, it is also very family-friendly with playgrounds dotting the area
and plenty of families with small children dropping them off at school and then heading a
little further for a day at the office.
