7. Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art
The first thing you are going to notice about the Stedelijk Museum is the giant bathtub. Yes,
a bathtub. This fine museum of contemporary art boasting pieces by greats like Picasso un-
derwent a decade-long reconstruction and expansion project and came up with a bathtub.
'The Bath' is the nickname that the old red brick building has been given, and for good reas-
on, it literally looks like a giant bathtub was lifted by crane and smacked down next to the
original Stedelijk Museum - you have to see it.
Inside, however is another story. The museum's collection is fantastically rich and provides
visitors with access to the works of Cezanne, Matisse and Chagall as well as more modern
works like that of Andy Warhol.
The museum explores 20th and 21st century contemporary art and design through works in-
cluding paintings, posters, photography as well as video. The museum was founded in the
late 19th century with a small collection that has massively expanded to close to 100,000
