Royal Palace
It is here that state leaders are received and the royal family resides from time to time, vis-
itors can tour the opulence when the royals are away. The palace was Amsterdam's city
hall until 1808 when the French, led by Napoleon, conquered the Netherlands. Napoleon
declared his brother King of Holland, King Louis I took over the city hall, making it his
residence.
