In-Depth Information
A warning: Russian jeeps easily overheat. There is no easy solution, but it helps to
travel during the early-morning or late-afternoon hours when temperatures are relatively
low.
Getting Bogged
Most of Mongolia is grassland, desert and mountains. You might think that mountain
driving would pose the worst problems, but forests cause the most trouble of all. This is
because the ground is often a springy alpine bog, holding huge amounts of water in the
decaying grasses, which are instantly compacted under tyres, reducing a wildflower
meadow to slush.
