Accommodation
Seasons
Rates listed in reviews are generally for the high season. High season is May to Septem-
ber. Some places may keep the same rates year-round, while others will offer a discount in
the low season.
Bookings
It's a good idea to book ahead for any accommodation.
Countryside
In rural areas, accommodation is limited, so if you turn up at the same time
as a big tour group or if a government conference is underway, you may find every bed
already booked out.
Ulaanbaatar
You also need to book ahead for accommodation in Ulaanbaatar (UB), espe-
cially the guesthouses, which get packed in summer.
Gers
Booking ahead at a ger (traditional yurt) camp also allows your hosts to have enough
food available for your party. Your tour operator can help make bookings.

al families. They are very basic: no toilets, no showers and thin bedding.
Expect to pay T7000 to T10,000 per night. Lunch or dinner costs around T5000 while
breakfast is around T2500.
Be aware that some families running ger
buudals
might not be able to cope with the
trash you produce and may dispose of it improperly. For this reason, the rangers at Khövs-
göl Nuur National Park and Gorkhi-Terelj will hand you a plastic bag when you enter the
