( 9946 0506; mains T4000-7000; 9am-10pm; ) A large restaurant with retro-Soviet
decor and mostly Mongolian dishes. No English menu, although if the English-speaking
owner, Tuya, is around she'll talk you through it. Dishes include sharsan za-gas (fried
fish from Khar Nuur), sharsan makhtei moog (fried meat with mushroom), bif-stek (meat
patty served with mashed potato and salad) and tsuiven (fried noodles).

(mains T4000-8000; 7am-9pm; ) The cleanest, smartest restaurant in town, and the
only one with an English menu, Uliastai Hotel serves up BBQ chicken, beef stew and
fried fish to go along with a range of traditional Mongolian dishes. Has a bar, although it
is reluctant to keep serving either food or drinks after around 9pm.

Strictly Protected Areas Office ( 9809 9466, 01462-22361; 9am-1pm & 2-5pm Mon-Fri)
This office contains a small information room with brochures and pictures, though no
English is spoken. The staff can also sell you entry tickets to Otgon Tenger Uul Strictly
Protected Area.
Telecom Internet Cafe (per hr T600; 9am-10pm Mon-Fri, 11am-5pm Sat & Sun) One of two
internet cafes in the Telecom Building. The other is open 7am to 9pm daily.
Telecom Building Catch-all location with two internet cafes, a post office and a branch
of EZ Nis airlines.
Getting There & Away
AIR
EZ Nis ( 9990 3959, 7046 3033; 9am-5pm) flies daily to UB (around T225,000 one
way) at 10.25am. A free shuttle bus to Uliastai's Donoi Airport (30km west of town)
leaves from the square outside the office at 7.40am. The office is inside the Telecom
Building. Staff speak English.
BUS
Buses leave five days a week for Ulaanbaatar (T48,000, 30 hours) from near the Chi-
gistei Restaurant at 9am.
