the nicest hotel in town. Rooms are small, but smart and modern, and come with very
clean bathrooms with reliable hot-water showers. They claim to have wi-fi, but it wasn't
working when we were here.
Shuutiin Tokhoi TOURIST GER CAMP$$$
( 9943 8200; [e-mail] ; GPS: N 48°02.960', E 091°40.253'; per person T40,000,
meals T5000) About 6km to the northwest of town, this basic camp has a gorgeous, grassy
location along the Buyant Gol, at the foot of a rocky escarpment. No toilets or showers,
but they do have areas to play basketball and volleyball (it's all about priorities).
Tsambagarav Hotel HOTEL$$$
( 01432-22260; tw T35,000-50,000; ) This large, rundown hotel remains one of the
more popular in town (competition isn't great), thanks to helpful staff, large common
areas, and wi-fi that extends from the lobby into the ground-floor restaurant. Rooms are a
mixed bag, and plumbing is dodgy, but you should get your own bathroom with hot
shower and sit-down flush toilet. It's in a blue-painted building with a Cyrillic-only sign.

T60,000; ) Though slightly rough around the edges, the rooms here are bright and all
have hot showers except the dorm whose bathroom is two floors below. The lux room is
particularly spacious. Welcoming staff, though little English spoken. Brick building. No
English sign.
Eating
Self-caterers should head to the daily market or to Khovd Nomin MAP ( 10am-7pm) , a
warehouse-like supermarket, which also stocks some basic camping equipment.
Tavan Erdene MONGOLIAN$

(snacks T500; 8am-10pm) The best khuushuur (mutton pancakes) are currently being
served in this no-frills single-storey, red-brick cafe behind the jeep stand. Four or five is
enough grease for most people but a Mongolian with an appetite can easily finish 10.
Look for the bright-red Cyrillic sign.
