Natural History Museum MUSEUM
MAP
(admission T2000; 9am-1pm & 2-6pm Mon-Fri) The Natural History Museum across the
street from the Aimag Museum is filled with badly stuffed animals, a replica Tarbosaurus
skeleton and some fossils, including a 130-million-year-old fossilised turtle.
Activities
Bayankhongor is overlooked by a stupa (and the telecom tower beside it) on a hill to the
west. Take a walk up here (20 minutes) for views of the town and surrounding coun-
tryside. For something more rewarding, head east to Nomgon Mountain , on the other
side of the river, Tüin Gol. This small mountain takes one to two hours to climb. There's
an ovoo at the top. From the town centre, cross the river then turn right and start climbing
up to your left just before you reach the point where the river meets the main road.
Sleeping
The best place to camp is by the Tüin Gol, a few hundred metres east of the city. Head to
the river, then start walking north (left).
