Sainshand, like most aimag capitals in the Gobi, does not offer anywhere decent to pitch
a tent. Try the hills between the train station and the town centre.

though the cheaper ones are pretty basic and have bathrooms without showers. Some-

five floors and circular design mean it dominates the northeast corner of the park. The
rooms are clean and smart and have fine views over the surrounding town from private
balconies. Showers are reliably hot, and there is a restaurant on the 2nd floor. Breakfast
is included with the higher-category rooms, as is wi-fi, which also extends to the restaur-
ant. Also has a very generous 6pm checkout!

store in a building that looks like an Arabian mini-castle. It has the usual range of Mon-
golian dishes, but the draw here is authentic, if somewhat oily, Chinese meals. Servings
are large. No English menu.
